Stop Waiting for the Boulder: The First Red Flag Is Enough

What if you don’t need another sign, another conversation, or another painful experience to confirm what you already know?

In this solo episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast, Patrice Washington continues the Redefining Love 2.0 season with a powerful conversation about trusting yourself at the first sign of misalignment—before the pebble becomes a rock and the rock becomes a boulder.

Because for many of us, the problem isn’t discernment. The problem is how much evidence we require before giving ourselves permission to act on what we’ve already discerned.

In This Episode, You’ll Learn:

  • How to recognize the “pebbles” of misalignment in your life
  • Why compassion for others can become a tool for overriding your own knowing
  • The difference between a pebble, a rock, and a boulder
  • Why red flags don’t have to become devastating before they count
  • How misalignment eventually sends an invoice across the Six Pillars
  • Why Patrice believes we need to shorten the distance between discernment and action
  • Four questions to help you identify and respond to what you already know

The Pebble Is Information

A pebble usually isn’t dramatic.

It’s the conversation that leaves you thinking, Something about that didn’t feel right.

It’s realizing you’re always initiating the relationship. It’s the employee who technically hasn’t done anything terrible, but requires far too much management. It’s the opportunity everyone else loves that leaves you feeling strangely unenthusiastic.

The pebble is simply information.

And Patrice challenges us to stop collecting pebbles while waiting for something painful enough to justify what we already know.

Compassion Shouldn’t Require Self-Abandonment

Maybe you understand their trauma.

Maybe you can explain their behavior.

Maybe you see their potential.

But understanding someone else doesn’t require you to misunderstand yourself.

This is especially important in the PEOPLE pillar. You can love someone, extend grace, and understand their perspective while still acknowledging that their current capacity does not meet what you need.

As Patrice reminds us, deal with people based on what you know, not what you hope.

Misalignment Always Sends an Invoice

Ignore the pebble long enough and eventually it becomes a rock—and sometimes a boulder.

That cost can show up in your body, relationships, environment, faith, work, or finances.

Patrice shares how ignoring the whisper to move beyond her original Real Money Answers brand eventually led to a trademark battle and, later, her entire website being hacked. The invitation to create Redefining Wealth had arrived much earlier—she simply wasn’t ready to honor it.

That’s why this isn’t only a relationship conversation. It’s a wealth conversation.

Misalignment always sends an invoice somewhere.

Stop Requiring Devastation

One of the greatest acts of self-love is becoming someone who doesn’t require herself to suffer before she listens to herself.

The pebble doesn’t always mean leave.

Sometimes it means look.

Ask the question.

Have the conversation.

Slow down.

Collect more information.

Change someone’s access to you.

But whatever the pebble is saying, the invitation is to stop pretending you didn’t hear it.

Stop Watching the Work From the Outside

The Institute wasn’t created to give you more information to collect.

It was created to give you a place to practice.

A place to use your voice.

A place to get vulnerable.

A place to make aligned decisions and receive support as you follow through.

Because eventually, you have to do something with what you already know.

The question is:

What has been getting your attention—and what are you going to do about it?

Take a Pebble Inventory

Patrice leaves us with four powerful questions:

What do I already know?

What evidence am I still waiting for?

If absolutely nothing about this changed for the next 12 months, what would I wish I had done today?

What is one move I can make that honors what I know today?

You don’t have to blow up your life.

You simply need to make one courageous move that shortens the distance between knowing and aligned action.
