When the “Strong One” Finally Accepts Support

Patrice Washington with Redefining Wealth Institute Faculty

What happens when the person everyone depends on finally admits, “I need support, too”?

In this special episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast, Patrice Washington takes you behind the scenes of the Institute for Redefining Wealth for an honest conversation with members of the Institute faculty about what happens when high-capacity, responsible women stop carrying everything alone.

Because being “the strong one” may look admirable from the outside—but when strength becomes an identity you were conditioned to carry, it can keep you from using your voice, asking for what you need, and allowing yourself to be supported.

In This Episode, You’ll Learn:

  • Why “being the strong one” may be a role you were conditioned to play
  • How vulnerability can interrupt patterns of hesitation and self-abandonment
  • Why recognizing what needs to change isn’t the same as taking action
  • How community helps you build the courage to use your voice
  • What happens when you stop over-functioning for everyone around you
  • Why support across the Six Pillars creates transformation beyond one area of life
  • How coaching, structure, and accountability help turn information into action

Being the Strong One Isn’t Always Who You Are

One of the most powerful insights from the conversation is that being strong, responsible, and capable may not actually be your identity.

It may be who you were conditioned to become.

You learned to take care of everyone.

You learned not to disappoint people.

You learned to make yourself available.

And somewhere along the way, disappointing yourself became easier than disappointing everyone else.

But what happens when you finally decide:

I matter, too. What I want and need matters, too.

Support Gives You Space to Use Your Voice

Across the conversation, the Institute faculty share what they see happen when members finally feel safe enough to say what they’ve been thinking and feeling out loud.

“I’m not available for that.”

“That’s no longer my capacity.”

“This doesn’t feel right for me anymore.”

Small sentences can represent enormous shifts.

This is where the PEOPLE pillar becomes especially powerful. Being surrounded by people who understand your growth can help you stop questioning whether you’re “too much” and start building the courage to trust your own voice.

Knowing Isn’t the Same as Doing

You can know something needs to change.

You can recognize the pattern.

You can listen to the podcasts, take the assessments, save the posts, and gather all the information.

And still hesitate when it’s time to act.

The faculty describes this gap between recognition and action as one of the biggest patterns they see. Sometimes the hesitation comes from fear. Sometimes it comes from uncertainty. And sometimes you simply need support while practicing a different choice.

Information alone doesn’t create transformation. Integration does.

Your Life Is Not Six Separate Boxes

One of the reasons the Institute focuses on the Six Pillars of Wealth is because what happens in one area of your life rarely stays there.

A shift in your SPACE or PEOPLE pillar can influence your MONEY. Greater clarity in your FAITH pillar can change how you make decisions. Learning to rest and establish boundaries can transform the way you approach your WORK.

The goal isn’t to master all six pillars at once. It’s to identify where you need support, strengthen that area, and allow the transformation to ripple outward.

As Patrice reminds us, the goal is not to become a public success and a private failure.

It’s to experience wealth as an overall condition of wellbeing.

Stop Watching the Work From the Outside

The Institute wasn’t created to give you more information to collect.

It was created to give you a place to practice.

A place to use your voice.

A place to get vulnerable.

A place to make aligned decisions and receive support as you follow through.

Because eventually, you have to do something with what you already know.

The question is:

What has been getting your attention—and what are you going to do about it?
